After Effects

This is my first attempt at using after effects, I followed a tutorial from www.videocopilot.net after a seminar with Danny Kaye on effects. I had not before used After Effects and did not realise how useful it could be, I am considering the possibility of using a similar effect in the video I am currently making.

Script First Attempt

I have used the story I wrote as a treatment and tried to turn it into a working script this is it;

Scene 1. Studio

Everywhere is pitch black, a distorted face breaks the darkness with a strange voice.

VOICE

It’s been a while.
Hasn’t is Gary?
I haven’t seen you in a while?
Have we?
What?
NO!
But we get on well, us two GARY!
Why don’t you see what I’m like?
Why Don’t you give it a try?
We used to have such fun together?
Didn’t we?
Gary!
You can’t ignore me forever.
I’m always waiting, always there.
The back of your mind.
The tip of you’re tongue.
Isn’t that right?
You know what to do Gary.
Come back.
Back where everything makes sense.
Come to me
Come to me gary, come to me.
Yes!
Yes!
YES!

Scene 2. EXT hill top, morning

A hiker is out rambling around the moors. He is looking down at a man spattered with mud, poking him with his stick in an attempt to wake him from what looks like a nightmare.

Gary (As he wakes from his sleep)
No, No, No,

Hiker
What on earth is wrong with you?

Gary

Hiker
Well it’s a bit cold to be out dressed like that
You’ll catch the death of cold.

Gary

Hiker
Are you OK? You Look like you need a good cup of tea. A bit under the weather!

Gary

Hiker
Well you’d better come with me hadn’t you? You don’t want to get stuck on a moor.
Oh No! I can tell you! (Chuckles to himself)
About 9 years ago I think it was, the 1999 Chepstowe ramblers re-united.
Gosh, Brilliant.
It’s an awfully funny story.
You’ll enjoy this one.

Gary

Hiker
We’d all decided to do all three of Cats Bells. A good climb I might add. And just at the top of the second peak it started to chuck it down like cats and dogs. And I thought to myself
Hells Bells this is rain!

Gary
What are you talking about?

Hiker
Cats bells it’s a walk in the…

Gary
But why?

Hiker
Well…

Gary
W W Where am I?

Hiker
Ilkley moor. Bar Tat by the looks of things!

Gary
B But, Who are you?

Hiker
Oh I’m just a hiker, out hiking you might say.

Gary
W W WHO AM I?

Hiker
Well I’m not sure I just found you here laying on the floor I’ve never met you before but Im guessing you’re names Gary!

Gary
AAAARGH HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME?
GET AWAY FROM ME.

Gary stumbles to his feet and runs.

Scene 3. EXT

Gary runs down the hill staggering from side to side confused.

Voice
Come to me Gary!
You know where I am.

Reaching town breathless and confused he stops in the street, his hands on his knees.

Gary
But I don’t want to.
Come to me.
IM COMING.

Gary continues to run, this time with direction. A fast as his legs will take him.

Scene 4 INT Old house

Gary runs into an old house, inside to smashes open a door revealing steps leading into darkness. He stands shivering looking down into the dark. His sweaty hands push the walls of the stairwell as he begins to descend his feet trembling as he walks down into the dark.

Scene 5 INT Studio

Gary’s face can barely be made out in the pitch black.

Gary
I knew you wouldn’t leave me,
GARY.

Music Idea for Film

I want to use my own music on my film and have been generating some ideas for this. This song is an abstraction on the sound heard on the film visualisation in my post entitled "Film test 1" containing the same scales and basic sounds. The intended use for this music is at the end of my film where the character runs away from his own mind so it was important that it contained the same sounds as the original part of the film and also that it sounded quite intense and insane.

Rubber Johnny.

Rubber Johnny is a short film made by Chris Cunningham With Music by Aphex Twin. It is about a freak child that is kept in a basement by his disgusted parents who don't let him out. I own this video and am a great fan of both Cunningham's work and my own. I'm am writing about this video because after having made my "Film Test 1" in my previous post I have drawn many parallels between this video and my own ideas and I have clearly taken inspiration from Cunningham's work. The opening scene has an obscured face taking part in an interview. This is the part I have draw the most obvious and visual parallels with my own idea as my film test looks a lot like this and I think has a very similar feel. But also the film as a whole I think I have taken a lot of inspiration from. With it's ideas of madness and darkness that I hope to emulate in my own film. The use of darkness to signify insanity and create a scary mood in the film are things I will be drawing upon in my film.
